The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

Thanksgiving 2013. The annual family gathering and all of us going out to see a new movie.

The pick back then was the latest in The Hunger Games series – Catching Fire. Not really age appropriate for my 4-year-old nephew. So, my husband and I said we would take him to Frozen. The opposite end of the temperature spectrum. Walking in I wondered would he like the girl-power theme and stay interested? Well, I thought, at least there was a snowman and I like a good power ballad.

I should have had no doubts. At one point in the movie, where Elsa’s powers are known and dangerous – my nephew said out loud for everyone in the theater to hear – “Don’t touch her!” – trying to prevent a character from turning into ice. He couldn’t take his eyes of the screen and knew exactly what was at stake.

Now six years later our 4-year-old godson recently let us know his favorite song from Frozen 2 was “Into the Unknown.” I said that is a good song, but my favorite is “Show Yourself.” That debate I’m sure will continue through babysitting this evening.

In fact, I think many organizations could learn a thing or two from the Frozen movies and believe in the spirit of that song and make one of their core values – SHOW YOURSELF.

Because if you believe in people it’s important that everyone in your organization understand how their differences are what makes them unique and what gives them their special power. Everyone has to understand “why” just as Elsa strives to do. And when the following line gets sung, “You are the one you’ve been waiting for all of your life.” I get chills. If we could get everyone to believe that starting tomorrow confidence levels would skyrocket.

I only want to engage and work with companies who believe in the Frozen mindset and want to create Frozen moments that no matter your age speak to what’s best in all of us at work, at home and in life.

If you allow people to show themselves through their natural instincts and unique abilities you will unleash a power that far exceeds Elsa’s and it is not animated, but real.

I want to create more chills in life so that people can feel certain about who they are and understand their reason why.  Throw yourself into something new.

The cold never bothered me anyway.
