In January, the humanworks team researched several affective (personality) assessments. While preparing to leave for an extended vacation to Vietnam and Cambodia, my various results were fresh on my mind. Myers Briggs said that I’m an ENFP – Extraversion (E), Intuition (N), Feeling (F), Perception (P). What resonated with me prior to my travels was that my result said I “love variety – of ideas, people, environments” and “enjoy meeting people from different cultures.” YES! Predictive Indicator said I’m a Promoter and “love being with, talking to, and getting to know others.” Of my top 5 themes in Clifton StrengthsFinder, WOO (winning others over) struck a chord with me. I recently read an article in AdWeek about Eve Dubois. On Canada’s Family Feud, Eve confidently and incorrectly answered “Chicken!” when asked what Popeye’s favorite food was. There was only one correct answer, and that answer was “Spinach.” I laughed at the video, but read on, learning that Popeye’s (the restaurant) helped make up for Eve’s missed opportunity to win $10,000 cash by publicly offering her $10,000 worth of Popeye’s chicken. Now, I realize that most people would rather have cash than fried chicken, BUT what I loved is that Popeye’s found an opportunity out of an average moment. As I review the Thanksgiving dinner menu for my family this year, I can’t help but picture people going home to their families for a day to pause and be grateful. Sure, we may be driving or cooking or even (gasp) shopping, and we forget the simple fact that we are gathered together for a day that is literally built on the idea of gratitude.
